I need a very light weight wood filler that I can use with a balsa build.
I don't like wood glue balsa putty (such as Ponal) as it is too tough to sand.
I need something soft and VERY light weight.

Do you know what I can use?

Thanks.

Using a product called "Light Spackle". Easy to sand, comes in a tub. Can also use micro balloons mixed with glue or epoxy.

I saw the people in the US use "Light Spackle" and micro ballons but was not sure if it is available in SA. Where do you buy light spackle and micro balloons? At a general hardware store?

You can get Micro Balloons from AMT and a local equivelant for "Light Spackle" is Alcolin Light Fill - from any good hardware store...

You can also get balsa filler at most LHS's, I like the stuff. Much easier to sand than wood so you don't damage the original wood you're trying to fill up. It's also incredibly light and waterbased. Heck it's even coloured balsa light brown. Only drawback is it's a little expensive but honestly I bought a little tub 6 years back and have done 10's of aeroplanes and 100's of repairs with it and it's still not even half. Dries out unfortunately but a few drops of water (Yes, take it literally drop for drop..trust me) loosens it up and ready to rock again. I'll have to check the exact name but I know Revo has a few tubs in the store..bout R70 each.

The balsa filler sold by hobby shops is just Alcolin Lite fill rebranded and marked up, in my experience.

Try it. It's either that or glass balloons. Glass balloons is probably easier to sand, but much more brittle too.
